Charlotte Observer Building The Charlotte Observer is the oldest daily newspaper in the country and the single most powerful medium in the area. With a paid subscription of over 300,000 on Sundays and 240,000 weekly, the paper is the 31st largest in the country. In addition to Charlotte, the paper covers the central portion of both Carolinas.

The Charlotte Observer publishes seven regional local sections that cover neighborhoods and community events. The Charlotte Observer was founded in 1886 and became a part of the Knight-Ridder chain in 1955. The paper's high journalistic quality has been awarded with the Pulitzer Prize Gold Medal for Meritorious Public Service in 1981 and 1986.
