Government Center This is the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. The center, at 600 E. 4th St., is home to both the city and county offices and the city council members and county commissioners hold sessions in the same meeting chamber.

The building is a rose-colored, 14-story triangular tower that, with an adjacent parking deck, cost $41 million. It includes a state-of-the-art 230-seat meeting chamber.

Form of Government

Charlotte is served by a city-county form of government. The city provides urban services, such as water, trash disposal, sewer and recycling. The county provides human services such as health and education. Each town in the county have their own governments. Both Charlotte and the county utilize a manager form of government. This manager is hired be a city board of county commissioners.
