This center opened in 1992 with much fanfare. Part of the Nationsbank complex, this five-level building features a dramatic marble and mosaic tile interior. The outside has steel facade arcs and rows of glass that radiate light within. There are three theatres, the 2,100 seat Belk Theatre performance hall for symphony and opera and the 440 seat smaller Booth Theatre for local and regional theatrical productions and a 180-seat Studio Theater for experimental theatre. There is a convenient glass walkway connecting the center to a guarded parking garage.
This center and Spirit Square form the cornerstones of our designated "cultural district" in uptown.
Step outside the center and look up. The 60 story building you see is the tallest in Charlotte, the NationsBank Building which is our next stop.
