INFORMATION REGARDING RESIDENTIAL CURBSIDE PICKUP

The items listed below, along with the landfill to which they may he taken for disposal, are not contracted to be picked up by the Town of Mint Hill:

Harrisburg Road Landfill - (HR)

a demolition landfill also operates a household recycling center - 537-7441

Two County Yard Waste Landf ill Sites:

Paul Brown Boulevard site - (PB)

5631 Paul Brown Blvd. (Route 160, W. Blvd.) 336-6087

North Mecklenburg Yard Waste Facility - (NM)

Hwy 21 (1 mile south Huntersville) Hours: Tues.- Sat. 8:00-4:00

Old appliances, including hot water heaters and tanks (HR)

Furniture, mattresses, box springs or bulky items of this nature (HR)

Old Carpet and old equipment such as lawnmowers and swing sets (HR)

Piles of brush that are more than four ft. high by four ft. wide (4'X 4') Brush or limbs over this amount and less than five ft. in length, less than six inches in diameter may be taken to (PB) or (NM).

Limbs over five feet long and six inches in diameter, tree stumps, wood blocks or logs (HR) *Fee

Building materials including fence posts, fence rails, carpet, paint oil, batteries and scrap metal (HR)

Dirt (HR will take clean dirt)

More than two (2) 32-gallon cans or bags of rubbish items per week

Rubbish items should total no more than 75 pounds per pick up

Up to four (4) tires, not shredded but taken off the rims (HR) - Rims may be recycled (HR)

If you have any of the items listed for curbside pickup, please make arrangements to have them picked up by a private source or carry them directly to the proper facility. The following items will be picked up but have special requirements for pickup:

All dangerous trash items -- broken glass, fluorescent and television tubes should be securely wrapped to prevent injury to the collection crews.

Leaves or lawn trimmings should be placed in trash containers or plastic bags.

Only shredded tires (up to four) will be picked up.

If you have comments or questions about your curbside pickup, please call Mint Hill

Town Hall, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for assistance.

SOLID WASTE SERVICES

The following are ways in which you may help us provide each household with better

garbage pickup at the most economical rate. Your help will allow us to try to keep

your taxes lower and give you the best service your money can provide. With over 4,000

homes to service, standardization is essential.

Garbage - Backyard

1. Backyard garbage service is provided twice weekly. Pickup is contracted for a

maximum limit of two thirty gallon containers.

2. Containers should be accessible at each house to service men without opening

doors or gates by 7:00 a.m. (Pickup times vary according to location,)

Containers should always be kept in the same location.

3. A more sanitary service will be provided if your waste is bagged, but this is not

required.

4. Waste for backyard pickup should be only household garbage, not recyclables or

curbside.

5. Dogs should be either confined or restrained on pickup days. Service may be denied if this requirement is not followed. (Pets do scatter trash.)

Curbside - Waste Pickup day is Wednesday unless there is a holiday.

1. Curbside waste should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. each Wednesday.

2. Curbside pickup is not provided during holiday weeks - there will be a special

schedule for Christmas and New Years - (Holiday pickup schedule will be published

in the Mecklenburg Neighbors,)

3. No pickup is provided for: appliances, carpet, partially filled paint cans, oil

or other petroleum products, batteries, rubber tires, tree stumps or any material

not acceptable at the landfill. Absolutely N0 building material, wood blocks or

logs will be picked up.

4. Items contracted for pickup at the curb are: Magazines, cardboard boxes,

clothing, excess garbage, bagged grass clippings and leaves, limbs and brush

should be separated from other waste because they are chipped. (These should be

left as long as is manageable and easily carried - approximately 6 to 8 feet in

length and not over 6 inches in diameter. Never place more than a pile of

approximately 4 feet high by 4 feet wide at the curb each week.)

Recyclables THE MORE WE RECYCLE, THE MORE WE HELP OUR ENVIRONMENT

Recyclables should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. the morning of your pickup.

1. Only clean newsprint is acceptable and should be tied or put in paper bags (NOT

PLASTIC) and placed either under bin or on top of bin.

2. Glass containers, rinsed with lids removed are accepted.

3. Plastic containers are accepted (this includes milk jugs, drink bottles, laundry

and dish washing detergent. bottles). Always empty, rinse, flatten, if possible,

and remove lids.

4. Metal, aluminum and juice cans are acceptable if rinsed and lids removed.

DO NOT MIX PAPER AND OTHER RECYCLABLES. Papers should be placed either on top or under the bin. NEVER USE PLASTIC BAGS for recycling. They will not be taken.
